It is believed that the 2008 U.S. presidential race will be “the most expensive election in American history. The estimated expenditure is close to $1 billion. A candidate who is serious about his or her presidential bid is expected to raise at least $100 million by the end of 2007.

The 2008 race for US President will be the first time in 80 years that both major parties will have open contests for the Presidential nomination without a sitting President or Vice President in the running. January 19 – Nevada Caucuses
January 22 – Tentative date for the New Hampshire Primary
January 29 – South Carolina Primary

February
February 5 – The so-called “National Primary”: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Idaho, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah and several other states will combine to either produce an instant nominee, or force open conventions in both major parties. Pennsylvania and New York are in the process of moving up the date of their primaries. Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin are also considering moving their primaries to this date.
